Frequently Asked Questions

What is a handicap?
It is the number of artificial strokes a player receives to adjust her scoring ability to the common level of scratch or zero handicap golf. This number may increase or decrease depending upon the difficulty of the course being played (see next two items).  Click here for more detailed information.
Do I have to be a good golfer to join?
No, you do not have to be good golfer to join EWGA. In fact, most of our membership are new or beginning golfers who have improved since joining. It's the best place to learn the game. Check out the Events page for clinics and other related events for newer golfer.
Will better golfers be upset when I first start playing?
All of the membership has started as beginner golfers and understand what it is like to be a new golfer.
Do I have to buy new clubs before I join a league?
No, only if you want to. It is actually better to find out your style of play before investing in new clubs.
What are the reservation and cancellation policies?
Reservations for events sponsored by the MN Metro Chapter of the EWGA are available on a first come, first serve basis. Advance payment by check or credit card is required at the time reservation is made. Exceptions to this policy must be arranged with the event coordinator prior to the registration deadline in order to pay upon arrival. Since our events require a confirmed count of golfers, diners, etc. to the host facility, once that final count is provided, the chapter is committed and is billed according to that count. If you are unable to attend an event, you must contact the event coordinator to cancel. While the cancellation date may vary by event, we ask that each member contact the event coordinator as soon as you know that you will not be attending. If you have paid in advance and cannot attend, your money will be refunded ONLY if you have notified the event coordinator according to the published cancellation date. If you have arranged to pay at the event, and do not provide adequate cancellation notice, you will be billed.
